Review of Sticky Fingers High Street Kensington
Sticky Fingers is a buzzing restaurant that proudly embraces a rock’n’roll vibe; a more than subtle nod towards its owner; Rolling Stones star, Bill Wyman. Located in a side road in High Street Kensington, this hidden treasure serves up delicious American BBQ cuisine and I’m already eager to return!
I heard about this little gem through an email sent from bookatable.com, featuring a special price for a three-course meal, including either a beer or cocktail – all from a set menu. However, when we got to the restaurant and drooled over all the mouth-watering dishes passing our way; we knew we couldn’t be restricted by a set menu and so reached for the main menu. Unfortunately, while my nostrils and eyes were begging for as much food as possible; my tummy wasn’t quite ready as we’d already indulged in a big lunch earlier in the day. I was so disappointed in myself!
In the end, we opted for a shared starter of crispy fried shrimp with a delicious chilli lime mayo. These shrimps were super juicy and even though it was a starter for one, there was definitely ample for two people. The chilli lime mayo wasn’t too spicy and the hint of lime gave it a subtle edge. There’s always that one awkward diner who wants to mix and match the menu to create a meal, perfect for them; well that particular customer would be me. I am forever asking if I can replace the side of chips with a side of vegetables; or if I can have that scrumptious looking chicken burger, but without the bacon and replaced with a portobello mushroom. I have always been brought up to not waste food and be grateful for the wealth of nutrition I have around me, which is why I like to order a meal that I know I will eat every last forkful of. I think it’s very important that we are aware of how lucky we are to be so well fed and that wastage is wrong in principal and in practice. I carry particular gripe with the wastage of meat, as I loathe the thought of an animal being killed for its meat, only to be thrown in the bin. Rant over, back to Sticky Fingers!

Given that I am partial to a ‘pick & mix’ affair when choosing from the menu; I opted for the salmon fishcake starter with tarter sauce, sweet potato fries and the house salad for my main. My boyfriend; being a typical man, was seduced by the St Louis ribs & chicken wings, which when on arrival, drove my taste buds wild and my mouth was soon watering at the look and smell emulating from the plate. The salmon fishcakes were packed full of those delectable ingredients you expect from a classic Thai fishcake; lemongrass, parsley, coriander... The fragrant juiciness of this dish reminded me of why I love fishcakes so much. As for my boyfriend’s meal; the fact that he was practically licking his sticky fingers by the end of the meal says it all!

For dessert I ordered the Oreo cookie milkshake, but unfortunately I had bitten off more than I could chew, and couldn’t quite finish the glass of deliciousness! My boyfriend was on hand to help though.
If you’re looking for a good time with good food, take a little trip to Sticky Fingers!
